Water Safety messages for parents, carers and teachers:
1. Never leave young children unattended near any water, even garden
ponds, water butts and paddling pools.
2. Make sure children always wear something on their feet when paddling
to protect them from sharp objects on the river bed.
3. Do not allow children to jump in rivers, lakes, canals or ponds. They are
often murky and you don’t know what is hidden under the surface.
4. Even the shallowest river can quickly become deep, with a fast current
in a flash flood.
5. Avoid entering the water near weirs as it is easy to get swept away and
the water is often deeper there.
