The rain showed no signs of stopping and while the children
busied about, cleaning out cages and tanks, Susie tuned into the
local radio station to listen to the latest weather information.
The ground was indeed saturated and now it seemed that the
river had burst its banks and had flooded the lane down to
Susie’s house.
Bartek the village postman had already got stuck!
“Do not attempt to drive along Church Lane,” the voice from the
radio warned.
“Those who live at the end, where the water is deepest, are
advised to stay in their homes until further notice.”
Susie telephoned her elderly neighbour next door to check that
she had heard the advice and was safe.
