Fire safety messages for parents, carers and teachers
• Explain to the children that fire is hot and can burn them,
by teaching them the difference between hot and cold.
• Matches and lighters are tools not toys that should only be
used by adults.
• Always keep matches and lighters out of reach, preferably
out of sight.
• Look out for safety matches and child proof lighters, they
are available to buy in many DIY stores.
• Make sure you have working smoke alarms at home and
that everyone knows to get out, stay out and dial 999.
