Energy efficiency
Energy Efficiency is all about using less and being more mindful of our surroundings,
it benefits you – by using less you pay for less, the community overall – there is less
pressure on systems bringing you your energy, and the environment – using less means
less fuels are wasted generating and supplying the energy we use. It is the cheapest
and most effective way of saving money and caring for the environment, it’s also really
simple!
Here are some basic tips for being more energy efficient. Don’t leave appliances on
standby, turn them off at the plug when you stop using them, turn off lights when you
leave a room too! Only boil a kettle with as much water as you need, avoid filling it up
when you may only need a small amount. Turn off radiators in rooms you’re not using and
if you can, drop the heating by a degree or two. If you have an electric shower, try to
keep showers to 4 minutes as they use a lot of energy.
Make sure your home is insulated properly and doors/windows close properly so there’s
no draughts, this will help you keep your heat where you need it! Lastly, if you’re buying
new appliances, look at the energy efficiency rating, A+++ rated appliances are the best
with D rated the least efficient.
